Children’s feet are wonderfully complex structures that go through many changes as they develop. For example, as babies, the bones of our feet are predominantly cartilage. Over time, this cartilage is progressively replaced with bone through the ossification process. This is just one of the many amazing developmental changes that transpire as children grow and age.
The rapid changes that occur in children’s legs and feet, especially during the earlier developmental stages can be a source of concern for some parents. However, deciding if and when to see a Podiatrist can be a little confusing.
As a rule of thumb, we believe that if something doesn’t look or feel right about your child’s feet or lower limbs then a check up with a Podiatrist is recommended. This is more likely to be the case if foot and leg related niggles and complaints regularly come and go, come on suddenly, are persistent or cause distress for your child.
For example, a check up is a particularly good idea if your child:
Podiatrists can assess your child’s lower limbs and share any findings with you, including the need for treatment (if applicable). In doing so, the aim is to allow you to make an informed choice about how to address any concerns or problems your child might be experiencing when it comes to the lower limbs and feet.
If you have any concerns about your child’s feet or legs, our Podiatrists are here to help! To book an assessment, please contact us for an appointment.
